Mötley Crüe musician Vince Neil is opening up about his recovery after suffering a stroke.
“I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough,” Neil, 64, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a Friday, September 12, profile. “The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.’”
Neil suffered a stroke in December 2024, prompting his legendary band to postpone their residency in Sin City. After Neil was discharged from the hospital, he underwent months of physical therapy.
“I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair,” he recalled. “I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything. But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.”

Neil continued, “It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do. You try to walk but it doesn’t come out right.”
According to Neil, he is now “90 percent” back to his pre-stroke capabilities.
“I’ve doing a lot of running. I learned how to run again,” Neil told the outlet. “It’s been tough, but I’m back, I’m 90- [or] 95-percent to where I was before, and it’s going to be great.”

Neil had not previously disclosed his health scare, telling the Review-Journal that his “whole left side went out.” The incident occurred one month after Neil’s private jet was involved in a runway collision at the Scottsdale Airport. Neil was not on board at the time, though girlfriend Rain Hannah was and hurt in the crash.
“Rain broke six ribs, the cracked vertebrae still hurts her, it’s what she deals with,” he said in Friday’s profile of his girlfriend’s injuries. “But, she is back on her horses. She goes riding all the time.”
Neil, who lives with his influencer girlfriend on an expansive ranch in Nashville, previously addressed the crash in a statement.
“At 2:39 p.m. local time, a Learjet aircraft Model 35A owned by Vince Neil was attempting to land at the Scottsdale Airport. For reasons unknown at this time, the plane veered from the runway causing it to collide with another parked plane,” a February 2025 statement shared via the band’s social media page read. “On board Mr. Neil’s plane were two pilots and two passengers. Mr. Neil was not on the plane. … Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today.”
