A Windham man died Tuesday afternoon after vapors ignited while he refueled his boat on Little Sebago Lake.
Allan Ryder, 78, was refueling his boat, which was tied to the dock, about 4:15 p.m. when the vapors ignited and he either jumped or fell into the water, according to Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
He was found floating face down near Outlet Cove Road in Windham, Latti said Tuesday night.
Ryder died at the scene.
The Maine medical examiner’s office will determine how Ryder died, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.
His death remains under investigation.
