What does the Trump administration want?
On one hand they have said that they want to dismantle the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and leave it to the individual states to take care of any natural disaster that befalls them. President Donald Trump declared in his first inaugural address that “we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the American people.”
On the other hand, he is demanding a lot from the states. His administration wants the state to supply it with all of Maine’s voter registration information. His administration also wants the names of all high school athletes in the state. So far the administration doesn’t seem interested in their academic accomplishments. Unless, perhaps, if they have been receiving history lessons about slavery (apparently that would classify them as woke).
I wonder what the limit, if any, there will be on individual states’ rights to determine their government processes? Will it only be to handle disasters on their own? Will that be based on how much homage is rendered to Trump?
