A Hiram man died early Sunday after a single-vehicle crash near the Casco and Naples town line.
The crash happened about 1:15 a.m. on State Park Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived to find a silver 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee engulfed in flames.
The driver, Nicholas Strout, 35, was found outside the vehicle. He was taken by Casco Rescue to Bridgton Hospital, where he later died.
An early investigation indicates Strout was headed west on State Park Road toward Naples when his vehicle left the road and struck a large tree. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors, the sheriff’s office said.
State Park Road was closed for several hours while deputies investigated. The sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and the state medical examiner’s office are continuing the investigation.
