Even before Taylor Swift looked forward to a future family with fiancé Travis Kelce, she shared her intentions in her hit songs.

Swift has released chart-topping album after chart-topping album since she was 15, with many songs about her loved ones. Swift’s parents, Scott and Andrea, have been the inspiration of songs “The Best Day,” “Never Grow Up” and “Soon You’ll Get Better.” The latter track, from 2019’s Lover, was about Andrea’s cancer battle.

“Everyone loves their mom; everyone’s got an important mom,” Swift told Variety in 2020. “But for me, she’s really the guiding force. Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first. So, obviously, it was a really big deal to ever speak about her illness. … It’s just been a really hard time for us as a family.”

Andrea eventually went through treatment before doctors told her she was in remission.

Every Time Taylor Swift References Marriage in Her Lyrics

In addition to writing about her parents, Swift has also penned melodies and lyrics about her dreams to become a mother herself.

“I’d swing with you for the fences / Sit with you in the trenches / Give you my wild, give you a child,” she sings in 2020’s “Peace” off her pandemic-produced Folklore. “Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other / Family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother / Is it enough?”

Nearly five years later, Swift is ready for that next step after announcing her engagement to Kelce in August 2025.

“They absolutely want a family,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly. “Their dream is to have kids. She’s in a great space in her career and with her success, she can take some time away.”

Keep scrolling to revisit Swift’s songs that are about family:

‘Mary’s Song’ (Oh My My My)

From her 2006 debut, “Mary’s Song” is about the dream of finding The One.

“Take me home where we met so many years before / We’ll rock our babies on that very front porch,” she sings. “After all this time, you and I.”

Of course, the next line now famously references the number 87 — which coincidentally matches Kelce’s NFL jersey number.

‘The Best Day’

“The Best Day” was included on Swift’s 2008 record, Fearless, and has long been regarded as a dedication to Scott and Andrea.

“I have an excellent father / His strength is making me stronger,” the lyrics read. “God smiles on my little brother / Inside and out, he’s better than I am / I grew up in a pretty house / And I had space to run and I / had the best days with you.”

The official music video features throwback home movies of Swift, her parents and her brother, Austin.

‘Never Grow Up’

On her 2010 album, Speak Now, Swift wrote “Never Grow Up” about her adolescence.

“You’re in the car on the way to the movies / And you’re mortified your mom’s droppin’ you off,” she croons. “At 14, there’s just so much you can’t do / And you can’t wait to move out someday and call your own shots / But don’t make her drop you off around the block / Remember that she’s gettin’ older too.”

A later stanza adds, “So here I am in my new apartment / In a big city, they just dropped me off / It’s so much colder than I thought it would be / So I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on / Wish I’d never grown up.”

‘Soon You’ll Get Better’

The Lover ballad was inspired by Andrea’s cancer battle.

“The buttons of my coat were tangled in my hair / In doctor’s-office-lighting, I didn’t tell you I was scared / That was the first time we were there,” she sings. “Holy orange bottles, each night I pray to you / Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too / And I say to you / Ooh-ah, soon you’ll get better.”

‘Peace’

Swift said in a 2020 Rolling Stone profile that “Peace” was written about falling in love with now-ex Joe Alwyn, whom she categorized as a person who had a “very grounded, normal way of living.”

“I, oftentimes, in my anxieties, can control how I am as a person and how normal I act and rationalize things, but I cannot control if there are 20 photographers outside in the bushes and what they do and if they follow our car and if they interrupt our lives,” she told the outlet. “I can’t control if there’s going to be a fake weird headline about us in the news tomorrow. …  have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a story line to be commented on.”

Us confirmed in April 2023 that Swift and Alwyn broke up after six years together. She started dating Kelce in July of that year.

‘Loml’

In the bridge of the 2024 Tortured Poet Department song, Swift alluded to an unnamed ex “talkin’ rings and talkin’ cradles” with her before they went their separate ways.

“I wish I could un-recall / How we almost had it all,” she adds. “Dancing phantoms on the terrace / Are they second-hand embarrassed / That I can’t get out of bed / ‘Cause something counterfeit’s dead?”

‘But Daddy I Love Him’

The TTPD anthem is rumored to be about fans speculating on her relationship status.

“Now I’m running with my dress unbuttoned / Screaming ‘But Daddy I love him / I’m having his baby,’” she sings. “No, I’m not, but you should see your faces.”

In the end, Swift notes that her boyfriend — presumed to be Kelce in the final verse following her fling with Matty Healy allegedly mentioned in the earlier stanzas — is her “wild boy” and they have so much “wild joy” together.
