An ongoing drought throughout the state has worsened, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Last week, severe drought conditions developed throughout midcoast Maine and some of Hancock County. As of Thursday, those conditions have expanded through coastal Down East Maine.
A moderate drought spans much of the central regions of the state, while abnormally dry conditions have been observed throughout northern Penobscot, Piscataquis and Somerset counties and the majority of Aroostook County.

Maine saw minimal rainfall over the past week, with scattered showers throughout the beginning of the week that did little to relieve dry conditions.
Maine’s fire danger remains moderate throughout the Allagash and North Maine Woods, high throughout most of the state and very high in the greater York County region.
Some rain is expected throughout the weekend according to National Weather Service forecasters. Anticipated rainfall amounts are uncertain at this time, although up to an inch could fall over central and northern Maine on Saturday.
