
A driver was clocked going 123 mph just minutes before a deadly crash in Winthrop over the weekend.
An officer spotted a 21-year-old Sidney man in a Ford Mustang going 123 mph on Route 202 in a posted 45 mph zone about 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the Winthrop Police Department.
Minutes later, the Mustang hit a Toyota Tacoma turning left onto Turtle Run Road, according to police.
The driver of the Tacoma, 76-year-old Steven Greene of Massachusetts, was thrown from his vehicle and died on scene.
The Tacoma then hit a Chevrolet Silverado, according to police. The driver of the Silverado was not hurt.
The driver of the Mustang was critically injured. His two passengers, a 51-year-old Augusta man and a 44-year-old Oakland man, also were seriously injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
