A Kittery woman was rescued Saturday night after she injured leg while hiking in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.
Florence Hunter, 22, was descending from the summit of Mount Moriah in Bean’s Purchase with her hiking partner about 5 p.m. when she slipped and injured her lower leg, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
Hunter couldn’t put any weight on her leg, so her hiking companion called 911.
The first rescuers reached the pair about 9:18 p.m., and they began preparing Hunter for the four-mile trek to the trailhead parking lot, where they arrived about 1 a.m. Sunday.
Hunter turned down an ambulance ride to the hospital and chose to seek medical treatment on her own.
New Hampshire Fish and Game said Sunday that Hunter and her friend had enough gear and supplies to last several days in the woods.
Bean’s Purchase is an unpopulated township in Coos County. It is entirely located within the White Mountain National Forest.
