The newest trailer for Taylor Sheridan‘s reality competition series — featuring country music legends Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson — reveals exactly how much money is up for grabs for the winner.
Us Weekly‘s exclusive look at the extended trailer reveals that the grand prize amounts to $250,000 and a record deal — but that might not be all. CBS viewers will have to tune in for more details as 12 emerging artists open for Urban, 57, at music venues across the United States.
“Touring is hard to get right. When you do, it is the greatest feeling in the world,” Shelton, 49, says in the sneak peek. “There is not a musician in Nashville that wouldn’t want the opportunity to have the stage before a superstar like Keith Urban.”
Shelton notes that The Road will “show people what these artists go through.” Elsewhere in the trailer, Urban breaks down their approach to finding the winner of The Road.

“12 musicians on tour with me and they are going to have to win over [the audience] to get to the next city,” he adds, before Wilson says, “We have some very talented people that came to compete, but out here opening for Keith’s audiences is not for the faint of heart.”
The Road, which comes from executive producers Shelton, Sheridan, 55, Lee Metzger and David Glasser, will show Urban performing songs from his latest album, High, including the single “Straight Line.”
The tour took place earlier this year, with the first performance held in March at Tannahill’s Tavern & Music Hall in Fort Worth, Texas, before wrapping up in April at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
“I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to find out if they are artists,” Urban said in a statement in February about joining The Road. “Paying your dues sucks, but there are things in this business that can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd.”
He continued. “For me, touring has always been my first love. It’s where the rubber meets the road. But it’s the only road to take if you want to be a performer.”
Shelton, meanwhile, was excited to work with Sheridan, who is responsible for Yellowstone and other hit scripted shows.

“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, [executive producer Lee Metzger], on The Road,” Shelton, a former coach on The Voice, said in a press release. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
Sheridan also elaborated on his move to the unscripted space.
“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” he noted. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road — literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”
The Road premieres on CBS October 19 at 9 p.m. ET before streaming on Paramount+. The show will air at 9:30 p.m. ET. on October 26 and November 2 following NFL Doubleheader and returns to its regular 9 p.m. ET time slot on November 9.
