Regarding the recent BDN article about school boards refusing to follow their lawyers’ advice on following Maine’s policy regarding trans students in sports, I have one question: How many — exactly — transgender athletes are enrolled in all Maine schools? Two? Five?
Doesn’t it make much more sense to allow the schools where these students attend to decide how to handle the complicated (and not-so-complicated) issues surrounding these students? It is past time for the temperature on this issue to die down.
I believe it is a red herring topic designed by toxic people to distract from the real danger facing public schools, namely, the shutting down of the U.S. Department of Education. I think anyone not in absolute horror over that danger is not paying attention.
The kids aren’t hurting anyone. Leave them alone. We’re all Mainers here. Live and let live.
