A Milford man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly entering a vehicle, finding a handgun inside, and firing multiple rounds into it, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident began around 12:54 a.m., when a County Road resident — who lives near the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School — reported hearing “very loud bangs” and other odd noises outside. The homeowner checked security cameras and saw a man on their property entering the vehicle.
Investigators said the man fired the gun inside the vehicle before fleeing, leaving the firearm behind.
A short time later, dispatchers received a call from the Freshies store in Milford about a man who was yelling. A deputy sheriff and Maine State Police troopers responded and found 44-year-old Brian Coston, who was identified as the person from the earlier incident.
Coston was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, criminal mischief, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a school. Additional charges may be filed.
