A 3-year-old girl was found dead inside a vehicle in Milford on Saturday evening, according to Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss.
The girl’s mother, Kelly Brown, 40, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, was arrested early Sunday and charged with manslaughter.
Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies were called Saturday night to a local business, where they found the child in Brown’s car. Brown was located nearby. Earlier in the day, concerned family members had asked police to check on the pair’s well-being.
After the discovery, the sheriff’s office requested help from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North. The child’s body will be examined by the state medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
Brown is being held at the Penobscot County Jail pending her appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
