California girl Katy Perry was “definitely on a date” with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier this week — but a source exclusively tells Us Weekly it’s very new.

“It was casual,” the insider tells Us of Perry, 40, and Trudeau’s Monday, July 28, dinner date in Montreal, Canada. “They had been in touch for the last month and have a few mutuals in the music industry.”

While the Grammy nominee “doesn’t have a lot of extra time right now” she was able to work out a break in her worldwide Lifetimes Tour schedule and “agreed to see” Trudeau, 53, the insider explains.

“This is all new to her as she hasn’t dated in so many years and it’s been exciting to put herself out there again,” the source continues, referring to Perry’s newly-single status following her split from fiancé Orlando Bloom earlier this year.

Justin Trudeau’s Dating History Explained: Ex-Wife Sophie Gregoire, More

“Katy is excited to move on but isn’t looking for anything serious,” the insider shares.

Perry and Justin, who divorced Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023 after 18 years of marriage, made headlines on Monday when they were seen dining together at Le Violon in Montreal. (Justin and Sophie share three children: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.)

Earlier that day, Perry and the former Canadian politician were spotted walking around Mount Royal Park in the city along with the singer’s dog.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s Reps Break Silence on Their Split

When Perry hit the stage at Belle Centre in Montreal on Wednesday, July 30, Justin was seen standing near the front row, according to footage circulating online.

Although it’s “uncharted territory” for Perry being back in the dating pool, the insider tells Us she is “excited about new beginnings” — especially because she’s in a good place with Bloom, 48.

Us broke the news in June that Perry and Bloom called off their engagement after nearly 10 years together. “Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,” an insider exclusively told Us at the time.

The source noted that the couple’s breakup was “a long time coming,” revealing that their relationship had been “tense for months.”

Perry and Bloom, who share 4-year-old daughter Daisy, however, seem to be coping to the best of their abilities. While Perry has been focused on her tour, Bloom was spotted mingling with several A-listers in June while attending Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Venice wedding.

The following month, Bloom shared a photo drop from recent months via Instagram, including a sweet snap of his and Perry’s blended family.

Katy Perry Shares Glimpse of Her ‘Mood’ After Orlando Bloom Split

In the July picture, Bloom had Daisy on his shoulders while Perry leaned in and held onto her while standing on a boat. Bloom’s 14-year-old son, Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, was on the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s other side sharing in the family fun.

“[Katy] and Orlando are still on good terms and do talk often, especially about Daisy,” the source tells Us, noting that their split “hasn’t been contentious.”

As Perry continues to navigate her new normal, the insider says, “She is feeling really good about her next chapter and is in good spirits.”
