Chappell Roan finally delivered a new song to fans with the release of “The Subway” — but they shouldn’t get their hopes up for her second album just yet.

“The second project doesn’t exist yet,” Roan, 27, told Vogue in an interview published Monday, August 4. “There is no album. There is no collection of songs.”

When she released her single “The Giver” earlier this year, fans were quick to notice that the lyric video included a faux DVD menu that scrolls past tracks called “To Be Yours” and “Read & Make Out,” but if those are real song titles, they’re apparently not coming out anytime soon.

“It took me five years to write the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next,” she explained, referring to her debut album, 2023’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. “I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out.”

The Grammy winner went on to say that trying to rush herself won’t work — nor will it produce quality music.

“I don’t think I make good music whenever I force myself to do anything,” she said. “I see some comments sometimes, like, ‘She’s everywhere except that damn studio.’ Even if I was in the studio 12 hours a day, every single day, that does not mean that you would get an album any faster.”

While The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess debuted in September 2023, it wasn’t until 2024 that she became a household name, thanks in part to viral performances at Coachella and on Saturday Night Live. She’s since released three additional singles — “The Giver,” “The Subway” and “Good Luck, Babe!” — but has shared no details about when her sophomore album might drop.

Last month, she announced a “pop-up” tour titled Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things, with eight dates scheduled in New York City, California and her home state of Missouri.

“I am sooooo excited to announce my Pop-Up Shows in New York, Kansas City, and Los Angeles this fall,” she wrote via Instagram on July 24. “I love these three cities so much + wanted the chance to do something special before going away to write the next album.”

All tickets will be available via a lottery system, meaning that only fans selected in the random draw will be allowed to purchase tickets.

“Because we’re only coming to three cities, I wanted to make sure 1. we’re keeping ticket prices as affordable as possible and 2. we’re trying to keep them away from scalpers,” she explained. “If you’re not selected to be able to purchase tickets, you’ll receive an email with details on the waitlist starting August 7th.”
