‘Drop’ (2025)
This new movie stars Meghann Fahy as a widowed single mom going out on her first date since the death of her abusive husband. “Getting back out there” is hard enough, but things get even more complicated when she starts getting anonymous images dropped to her phone that demand she kill her (perfectly wonderful) date, played by 1923’s Brandon Sklenar. Technology meets tension in this thriller, which perfectly externalizes the terror of letting a new lover in. Great action, great performances and great twists.

‘Black Bag’ (2025)
Two married spies. One mole in the agency. Countless problems. Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett star in this thriller that examines how you make a marriage work when lies are part of the family business. The excellent cast includes Regé-Jean Page in his best role since Bridgerton, as well as Pierce Brosnan and Naomie Harris.
It’s sexy, suspenseful and smart in the way that thriller master Steven Soderbergh (Contagion, No Sudden Move) does best. The quietly simmering chemistry between Blanchett and Fassbender anchors this mystery-driven thriller.

‘The Silence of the Lambs’ (1991)
One of the best horror crime thrillers of all time is The Silence of the Lambs. Jodie Foster plays young FBI agent Clarice Starling, who uses interviews with incarcerated serial killer and brilliant psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to help track down and stop the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine).
But Dr. Lecter wants to get inside Clarice’s head as much as she wants to get inside Buffalo Bill’s — and his twisted game of questions is fascinating to watch. The Silence of the Lambs also became one of the few thrillers in history to win the Oscar for Best Picture, a rare feat for the genre. Do yourself a favor and watch it — but maybe not right before bedtime.
