Mandy Moore had a big scare this week after her family’s car was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver.
The This Is Us alum, 41, shared the news via Instagram Stories on Friday, August 1, condemning the behavior of the motorist who drove off.
“To the woman who rear-ended my family and then drove off as we pulled over, hope karma finds you,” she wrote in a since-expired post. “Thankfully, everyone was OK but what kind of human does that?”
Moore is married to Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith and they have three young children — sons Gus, 4, and Ozzie, 2, and daughter Lou, 10 months — who were apparently in the car.

The family recently returned from a relaxing vacation to Punta Mita, where they enjoyed some quality time on the beaches of Mexico. “Nothing beats a beach vacation with some of your besties (here’s looking at you @whatsgabycookin),” Moore shared via Instagram earlier on Friday. “What an epic few days, @fspuntamita! We can’t wait to come back (Gus hasn’t stopped talking about it)!!”
The trip was a needed respite after a tough year for Moore, who lost her family’s newly renovated home in the California Eaton Fire in January.
In February, the actress and singer posted an Instagram photo of the destruction, sharing that “the contents of our home are a near total loss” due to its proximity to the fire and other burning structures.
Although she previously thought that the “main part” of the house was “still standing,” it turned out everything had to be torn down.
“Clothes, furniture, pretty much everything will have to be disposed of…maybe even the walls too,” she wrote at the time. “We won’t be there for a very long time as it and the neighborhood itself get sorted out and cleaned and the rebuilding starts. I say all of this because I’m struggling.”
She added, “It goes without saying that our sweet brood and our pets are ALL that matters and home is where we are together… but having a sanctuary and safe space to feel settled really goes a long way too.”
In a separate Friday upload to her Instagram Stories, Moore shared a photo of the renovation progress as they rebuilt their family home.
Moore’s in-laws, including brother-in-law and Dawes bandmate, Griffin Goldsmith, and his then-pregnant wife, Kit Goldsmith, also lost their homes in Altadena. (Kit gave birth to their first child just two weeks after the wildfires.)

Moore also shared how much her mother-in-law, Kathy Goldsmith, has done for her and her children in the months since the wildfires in a touching birthday post via Instagram in July.
“It’s been a hell of a year and my mother-in-law, Kathy, has risen to the occasion in every way. Selfishly, I’m not sure what I would have done without her in the hours, days, weeks, and months since the fire,” Moore shared. “She suffered her own immense loss and has been by our side since the very beginning, without skipping a beat. I’m heartbroken that our 5 min walk to her house is no longer on the table BUT so grateful that we’ve been able to live under the same roof these last 6 months — if there’s any silver lining in this whole thing, she’s definitely ours.”
The post continued, “From coffee in the morning as we let the dogs out, to tea after the kids go down and talking about our grief, funny things that happened in our day, etc…. To her absolutely mastering bath time, mealtime, playtime and everything in between — including moments like when Gus declared today — ‘I have to GO POOP with Gaga now!’, we couldn’t be luckier that she’s ours and we’re never letting her go. Seriously, she thinks she can move into her new place but that’s not happening. Ha!”
