A casting director for Emily in Paris shed new insight into Camille Razat‘s shocking exit from the show.

“She wanted to take a little break,” Juliette Ménager told Variety in an interview published on Friday, August 1. “But she could maybe come back.”

Razat has played Camille since Emily in Paris debuted in 2020. “As [creator] Darren [Star] told me — from his experience on long-running shows like Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place or Sex and the City — the cast becomes a family, and it’s like with your family, sometimes you need a little breather and then you come back,” Ménager added.

The Netflix series centers around Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) and her attempts to find her footing in France after moving from the U.S. for a new job. Emily subsequently ends up caught in a love triangle between Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).

Which ‘Emily in Paris’ Stars Have Left the Netflix Series Over the Years?

Razat was introduced as Gabriel’s love interest .When audiences last saw her on season 4, Camille had confessed to Gabriel that she wasn’t actually pregnant with his baby after previously keeping the details of her false positive under wraps.

After the season 4 finale aired in September 2024, Starr played coy on what role Camille could play in the show going forward.

“Characters can come in and out of a series, but you don’t necessarily have to see them. We may or may not,” he told TVLine at the time. “I don’t know how much of Camille we’ll see next season. But again, she’s part of the world of the series. I’m not sure how soon we’ll see her, but it doesn’t mean, again, that we won’t be seeing her.”

News subsequently broke in April that Razat was stepping back from Emily in Paris. The actress broke her silence on the decision in a statement.

“After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris,” Razat told TVLine that same month. “It has been a truly wonderful experience — one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories. I’m deeply grateful to Darren Star and the entire team at Netflix and Paramount for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to bring Camille to life and leaving the door open for her return, as she will always be a part of Emily in Paris world.”

Which ‘Emily in Paris’ Stars Are — and Aren’t — Returning for Season 5?

More recently, Rupert Everett surprised Us when he claimed he won’t be returning to the show.

“I was fired,” Everett, 66, who played Giorgio, alleged to Vanity Fair in July. “I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll speak,’” he recalled. “I waited for them to call me — but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me.”

Everett was shocked by not being included in season 5.

“Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you — but then things change, and they lose your character,” he added. “I don’t know why. For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it.”

Vanity Fair also included a quote from a source close to the production that noted how Everett had been hired in a guest-star capacity and that his character’s story line had come “to a conclusion.”

Emily in Paris is currently streaming on Netflix.
