A man was arrested Thursday morning after crashing into multiple vehicles — including into a Bangor police cruiser — and starting police pursuits through Bangor.
Michael McDarby, 54, of Bangor was driving erratically on Mount Hope Avenue, according to people who called 911. Bangor police officers went to the area to find the vehicle, spokesperson Jason McAmbley said.
Other callers then reported the same vehicle — which was still driving erratically — was headed toward downtown Bangor, McAmbley said.
Officers tried multiple times to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away each time, police said. McDarby was driving on Main Street, heading into downtown, when he intentionally hit a Bangor police cruiser, McAmbley said.
Police blocked the car in place and arrested McDarby. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
McDarby is charged with one felony count each of eluding an officer and aggravated assault. He is also charged with one misdemeanor count each of driving to endanger, refusing to submit to arrest, operating under the influence, failure to stop or report an accident, violation of conditions of release and probation violation.
McDarby is on probation for domestic violence assault in Somerset County, McAmbley said.
