Dexter: Resurrection thrives on killing off characters in brutal and gory ways — but how does each cast member hope to get murdered on screen?

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, stars of the Showtime revival had a variety of pitches for how their individual fictional characters should get killed off. David Dastmalchian, who plays a fictional serial killer, pointed out how there’s nothing more iconic than going out as a Dexter (Michael C. Hall) kill.

“Having been a fan of the show, I always thought it would have been cool in some acting version of my life that I get to be shrink-wrapped to a metal table and have Michael C. Hall get right up next to my face and take a little sliver of my cheek,” he joked. “All that sounded like it would’ve been really fun.”

Eric Stonestreet couldn’t help but agree, adding, “I’m not sure how my way I would want to go. You can’t go wrong — if you’re going to get killed by a serial killer — Dexter is the way to go because it’s such an iconic image. But I would like just normal killing.”

‘Dexter’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

Their costar Krysten Ritter was more interested in evading death.

“I think I would live on,” she noted before showing support for Us‘ suggestion of an onscreen death due to old age. “That’s not painful. That sounds nice. It’s just perfect.”

David Zayas had a similar idea while answering the question with Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, who noted, “That’s a great answer. I’ll go with that one too.”

As for fellow Dexter newcomers Dominic Fumusa, Kadia Saraf and Emilia Suárez, they haven’t had the chance to ponder a possible onscreen death.

“It is iconic to get on that table right with the plastic wrap. That being said, it’s not something I would look forward to,” Fumusa told Us before Suárez added, “The table is iconic and that’s pretty cool.”

How Many ‘Dexter’ Shows Are There? Guide to Each Spinoff — And Prequel

Dexter, which originally premiered in 2006, is all about finding new and innovative ways to introduce murders on screen. The show introduced Us to Hall as the prolific fictional killer, whose journey wrapped up in 2013. He later returned to TV screens as Dexter in a 2021 spinoff titled New Blood, which ended just one year later.

Despite Dexter’s death in the revival, the demand for more stories about the fictional serial killer didn’t waver. By 2024, Dexter received a prequel and a spinoff that found a way to bring the titular character back to life.

Dexter: Resurrection is available to stream on Paramount+ Fridays and airs on Showtime Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
