The bridge connecting downtown Orono to Marsh Island has fully reopened.
That construction on the Brandon M. Silk Memorial Bridge was scheduled for completion in August. The Orono Police Department announced the reopening Tuesday morning.
The Maine Department of Transportation closed the southbound side of the bridge so crews could perform maintenance and resurface it.
That closure required southbound traffic to take a 4.6-mile detour, extending some people’s commutes 45 minutes since the only other way over the Stillwater River required drivers to travel down either College Avenue or Bennoch Road.
