A Maine man pleaded guilty to lacing ice cream with THC, sickening four people in New Hampshire.
The Department of Justice said 45-year-old Marc Flore of Portland pleaded guilty Monday to tampering with consumer products.
According to court documents, four people in Newmarket got sick after eating coffee Oreo ice cream from Angelo’s Amore in March 2023.
All four experienced dizziness, elevated heart rate and vomiting, and three had to be briefly hospitalized.
An investigation revealed that the batch of coffee-Oreo ice cream contained THC.
THC is believed to be the main ingredient in cannabis that produces the psychoactive effect, according to the DEA.
According to court documents, Flore said he added THC to the ice cream when he made a batch in September 2022.
While the ice cream was intended for Flore’s personal use, he stored it in the ice cream café’s freezer with other commercial ice cream, without properly labeling that it contained THC.
Staff then unknowingly served the THC-laced ice cream to the four customers who got sick in March 2023.
Flore will be sentenced on Nov. 4. He is facing up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
