STONINGTON – With a yowl, a whisper or a candid, conversational affect, the potent melodies and moody, varied arrangements of Dead Gowns will take the stage at the Stonington Opera House at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29.
Geneviève Beaudoin, singer and songwriter of Dead Gowns, evokes a stirring compilation of raw, passionate folk-rock that calls to mind the music of Cat Power, PJ Harvey and Big Thief. Touring in support of their first full length album (“It’s Summer, I Love You, and I’m Surrounded by Snow”) Dead Gowns has performed across the country including SxSW 2025.
With a strong connection to Deer Isle (music videos for “Swimmer” and “Wet Dog” were both filmed on the island) Beaudoin looks forward to coming home. Though never named outright in her lyrics, Beaudoin’s home is Maine – along with its ragged, granite-strewn coastline.
“There’s a sense of freedom by starting in an autobiographical place and then expanding into fiction,” Beaudoin says of her approach to writing about lived experiences. “I learn so much about what has happened by exploring what could have been.”
“Much of this album was recorded here in our area, and the videos feature our rugged and beautiful Island. Genevieve Beaudoin is truly an artist on the rise, and this is the perfect moment to see her live,” states Artistic Director Kathryn Markey.

The Stonington Opera House is a historic center of culture and entertainment, a performance space, and a civic gathering place. Our work is rooted in the belief that access to and participation in the arts transforms lives.
The Stonington Opera House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and in 1999, it was rescued by the founders of Opera House Arts, a 501 (c) 3, that was established specifically to restore this historic building to its original purpose.
A cornerstone of a year-round, vibrant Main Street located at the top of the busiest commercial fishing pier in Maine, the Stonington Opera House is an economic engine for the creative economy of Deer Isle.
