Author Carley Fortune’s bestselling Young Adult romance novel Every Summer After is being turned into a streaming TV series by Prime Video.

Amazon’s streamer announced in July 2025 that it was partnering with Sex and the City producer Amy B. Harris on the upcoming literary adaptation, with Fortune on board too as an executive producer. According to Prime Video, Fortune’s Every Summer After sold more than 1 million copies and spent 14 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list.

The retitled Every Year After takes place over the course of six years in the gorgeous lakeside town of Barry’s Bay, as two lifelong friends — Percy and Sam — explore whether it’s possible for best friends to become one another’s soulmate. Saltburn’s Sadie Soverall has been cast as Percy and Matt Cornett (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) will play Sam.

Prime Video has already confirmed that Every Year After will launch simultaneously worldwide, though there’s no official premiere date quite yet.

Cornett has a background in Disney projects, having played theater-loving jock E.J. Caswell in the High School Musical TV spinoff and A-Lan in Disney+ movie Zombies 3. He shared the screen with Saturday Night Live’s Chloe Fineman in the Hulu sex comedy Summer of 69 in 2025, in addition to making recurring appearances in Life in Pieces and The Goldbergs.

Joining Soverall and Cornett in Every Year After will be Aurora Perrineau (Westworld) as Chantal, Abigail Cowen (Fate: The Winx Saga) as Delilah, Michael Bradway (Chicago Fire) as Charlie and Joseph Chiu (Fear Street: Prom Queen) as Jordie. More cast members will be announced as production ramps up.

What Is ‘Every Year After’ About?

Fortune’s 2022 novel is a coming-of-age love story unfolding over the course of six years in the lives of Percy and Sam. As they grow up, the two lifelong friends question whether they might mean more to each other than they ever imagined.

Prime Video’s official synopsis for the Every Summer After adaptation reads: “Told over the course of six years and one week in Barry’s Bay — the quintessential lake town — Every Year After is a romantic, nostalgic story of first loves and the people and choices that mark us forever.”

When Does ‘Every Year After’ Premiere?

Prime Video has not yet confirmed a release window for Every Year After, though the streamer has confirmed it will debut the series in “more than 240 countries and territories around the world.”

Who Is Author Carley Fortune?

Fortune started her writing career as a journalist for Canada’s The Globe and Mail and Toronto Life, before releasing Every Summer After as her debut novel in May 2022. (Her followup Meet Me at the Lake has been optioned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s company Archewell for a potential movie adaptation.)

The author will serve as an executive producer on Prime Video’s Every Summer After adaptation, where she will work alongside showrunner Amy B. Harris.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this fabulous cast,” Fortune said in a statement in July 2025. “This is an enormously talented group of actors, whose auditions made me laugh, swoon, and cry. I know they’ll have fans of Every Summer After falling in love with their favorite characters all over again.”

The Every Year After showrunner was a coproducer and writer for Sex and the City, in addition to developing its prequel spinoff, The Carrie Diaries. Harris’ impressive resume includes a consulting producer credit on Gossip Girl and producing HBO’s recently-revived Lisa Kudrow comedy The Comeback.

Harris cowrote Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine’s 2006 romantic comedy Just My Luck and, more recently, was showrunner of Prime Video’s survival thriller The Wilds.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harris replaced Leila Gerstein (The O.C. and The Handmaid’s Tale) as Every Year After showrunner in July 2025.
