I would like to respectfully take exception to the recent BDN headline: “Trump to put 25 percent tariffs on Japan and South Korea.” As every economist — especially conservative ones — should tell you, tariffs are not a tax on Country X, they are a tax on American businesses that import goods from Country X. And what will those American businesses do as a result? They will turn around and raise prices on you, the American consumer.
So throughout this year we should all understand this clearly, and not wonder why prices on groceries, clothing, electronics, lumber, and so many other things are rising as they are (and as unnecessarily as they are).
