A man accused of assaulting his pregnant wife, which led to a tactical team surrounding a Brewer motel, had his first court appearance Friday.
Edward Malone, 54, of Bangor was charged in Penobscot County Superior Court with one felony count each of domestic violence elevated aggravated assault and domestic violence aggravated assault.
Malone did not enter a plea, which is standard for felony cases. A grand jury will decide whether to indict him.
Malone’s wife called police about 4:28 p.m. Thursday to report that he was destroying their room at the Vacationland Inn and wouldn’t leave, Brewer police said Friday morning.
Police called in the tactical team but then reviewed security cameras and learned Malone had left the area. He was arrested Thursday evening in Hampden, police said.
Malone is contesting all of the allegations, his attorney Deven Soondar said.
Malone was granted a $10,000 bail. He is scheduled for a court hearing Oct. 7.
