Kirsten Storms made a rare comment about ex-husband Brandon Barash following her surprise break from General Hospital.
The 41-year-old actress announced in an Instagram video on Monday, July 7, that she filmed her final scenes (for the year) as Maxie Jones as Storms moves from Los Angeles to Nashville with 11-year-old daughter Harper. Fans were quick to weigh in with comments about her absence from the soap, with one speculating that Storms decided to make the move after Barash had previously relocated.
“Brandon and I actually had a conversation about moving as a coparenting unit mid January,” Storms responded. “It was the first time the idea was voiced. Neither of us would ever have moved without Harper’s other parent onboard for the move as well.”
Storms met Barash on General Hospital, where he played the role of Johnny Zacchara from 2007 to 2016. They secretly married in June 2013 and welcomed daughter Harper in January 2014. Storms and Barash have continued to coparent their daughter following their April 2016 divorce.
Kirsten Storms’ History as Maxie on ‘General Hospital’ Explained
Storms made it clear in Monday’s video that her cross-country move didn’t mean she was permanently leaving General Hospital. (Storms has played the role of Maxie since 2005.)
“I’m very excited to be making Tennessee my home! I can’t wait to return to GH, once Harper and I are settled in our new town,” she captioned the video. “I plan on documenting as much of this new journey on my social media as I can. It’s always been a dream of mine to move to a place like this, it’s hard to believe it’s really happening.”
In the clip, Storms also detailed her conversation with the show’s executive producer Frank Valentini about taking a break from the show.

“I had a conversation with him about my reasons for wanting to move and my desire to not leave the show,” she said in Monday’s social media clip. “When you approach a job like this, they can always be like, ‘Forget it, I will let you out of your contract if you’re going to leave the state.’ GH did not do that, which was kind of amazing because I also asked for some time off.”
While she’s already finished taping her scenes for the year, Storms said there’s a possibility she will be back in November or December.
“I promise you the story line they have going on until my return to Port Charles is kind of incredible,” she added. “You guys are gonna freak out actually.”
