A camper exploded in Stetson on Monday afternoon.
The blast happened about 2:08 p.m. on Coboro Road, where residents had placed Tannerite, an explosive used in target shooting, inside a camper behind a house, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The Tannerite detonated, exploding the camper and starting a fire that threatened nearby woods, Moss said Tuesday morning.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread.
No injuries were reported.
The fire marshal’s office is investigating to determine the cause of the explosion. That investigation is ongoing.
