I was one of the workers helping people sign to put ranked-choice voting on the ballot, and later to gather signatures to make sure the Legislature actually implemented it.
From all my conversations, I know well that my fellow citizens (voters) were expecting that ranked-choice voting (RCV) would be used not only for national contests, but for all the state contests, including for governor. That’s why they signed and that’s why they voted for it.
So however it can be modified, Mainers want to be able to use it for all the elections, not just some.
