BANGOR — On Tuesday, July 8 at 7 p.m. the Bangor Band will continue its 166th Summer Concert Season with a free concert at the Bangor Waterfront, Railroad Street. It will be joined by another Bangor band, the 195th Army Band.

The Bangor Band and the 195th Army Band share common roots; both began as military bands. The Bangor Band was originally the Maine Regiment Band, and saw military service in the Civil War. Upon returning to peacetime Maine, the band became a civilian performing group.

The 195th of course is still military and is the performing arm of the Maine Army National Guard. Members convene in Bangor once a month to rehearse, and have a two week tour of duty in the summer. In the case of the 195th Band, this tour of  duty is literally a concert tour of Maine. The collaboration on July 8 is a stop on this tour, which will take the band to venues from Southern Maine to the Canadian border.

The 195th Army Band will kick off the concert with some jazz and rock tunes, conducted by Commander Brady Harris and Executive Officer Jason Priest.

Conducted by Dr. Philip Edelman and  Associate Conductor Scott Burditt, the Bangor Band will perform a family friendly mix of marches and concert band tunes and will welcome members of the 195th Band to join them for several numbers!

In the case of rain, the concert will take place at the same time at Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School.
