An Ellsworth man will spend nearly six years in prison for methamphetamine trafficking.
U.S. District Court Judge John Woodcock Jr. handed down the sentence against 33-year-old Lucas Michaud on Friday in federal court in Bangor, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Michaud also will serve five years of supervised release.
Between May 2022 and May 2023, Michaud and others conspired to traffic meth Down East. A source would mail packages of meth from California, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
The conspirators sent money to the source via Walmart2Walmart, Cash App and Venmo. A co-conspirator enlisted Michaud and others to use their identities and accounts to receive money to disguise the source’s involvement in the transactions and money laundering, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Michaud pleaded guilty on Jan. 13 to conspiracy to distribute meth and to commit money laundering.
