Chicago P.D. is another show going through some cast changes — which means not everyone is returning for season 13.
The One Chicago franchise is made up of three shows: Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. In recent years, each series has surprised fans with fan-favorite cast members coming and going more frequently than on other shows.
NBC’s president of program planning, Jeff Bader, noted in the past that he isn’t worried how this would affect the One Chicago universe
“Cast comes in, cast goes out,” Bader told TVLine in an interview published in July 2024.“It’s interesting. Because every year there are cast changes, and every year someone asks the same question” about what’s going on within the One Chicago universe. “But [those shows] just keep going on.”
Which ‘Chicago Fire’ Stars Are — And Aren’t — Returning for Season 14?
Bader pointed that each of the Chicago shows has continued to find success, adding, “We’re thrilled with how the Chicagos do on Wednesday. We have no plans on changing anything on that night.”
Despite Bader’s confidence in Chicago P.D.’s future, fans got even more concerned when NBC pulled the plug on Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, Found, The Irrational, Grosse Pointe Garden Society and Suits LA in May 2025. NBC has since renewed The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, but those are the only freshman shows that survived.
NBC’s shocking cuts came after the network signed an 11-year deal with the NBA. This agreement, which is worth nearly $2.5 billion per year, means NBC will air up to 100 regular-season games, which affected the amount of original programming headed our way in the fall.
While One Chicago — and Law & Order — are safe at the network for now, there have still been some cast departures that took Us by surprise. Keep scrolling for a breakdown of who is — and isn’t — returning for season 13 so far:
Jason Beghe
Chicago P.D. wouldn’t be what it is without Beghe’s character, Voight. Season 13 will be tough after Voight faced off against Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy) one last time.
Marina Squerciati
Amid that chaotic season 12 finale, Burgess and Ruzek found time to get married, which has Us hopeful about their future on the show. “We didn’t get to see them actually walk back into the unit. It wasn’t just easy clean, we’re done, bow tied and they figured it all out,” showrunner Gwen Sigan exclusively told Us Weekly in May 2025, teasing that season 13 will bring a “different dynamic” for the unit.
Patrick John Flueger
Sigan continued to hint how season 13 will show more of the “wholesome” relationship between Burgess and Ruzek. “Now that they have some sort of stability at home, what does it look like on the job?” she shared. “What can we push them into and sort of, find stories there.”
LaRoyce Hawkins
Hawkins has been on Chicago P.D. as Kevin Atwater from the beginning — and he has no plans to change that.
“We are all truly like family,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2025. “And I am here, in Chicago, with family! I can still go to my grandmother’s house and touch my grandparents. I can still go to my old high school and tap into a classroom. It feels like family with my close friends all around all the time.”
Amy Morton
Sigan told NBC that she has noticed how important Morton’s Platt is to the show, sharing in January 2025, “She is someone that across all three shows, I think she’s pretty beloved. Especially with her relationship with Mouch and how often she’s on Chicago Fire. You see every character’s reaction.”

Benjamin Levy Aguilar
After season 12, Sigan confirmed that viewers will see Torres on the show.
“He’s just been through it this year,” she noted in May 2025. “He’s really been through it. We started to see him really separate himself from some of the pillars of his life like religion and feeling a comfort in the job — and sort of his own morality? He’s kind of going through this crisis of faith himself, and so I think that’s gonna be really interesting. How do we bring it back to the light? What does that look like?”
Toya Turner
Turner will not be returning as Officer Kiana Cook in season 13, writing via Instagram, “My time on Chicago P.D. has come to a close. This show challenged me, sharpened me, & revealed what I’m made of. I’m walking away with depth, clarity, & momentum for whatever comes next. It was an honor to share the screen & set with such a talented cast & crew. Next chapter.”
She continued: “And a final thank you to the ChiHards for welcoming me, rooting for me, and showing Kiana love. To everyone who believes in me, your support means the world. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead!”
Sara Bues
“I don’t think Chapman’s gone. I think that [Chapman and Voight]’s relationship has just changed a lot,” Sigan told Us. “It’ll also be interesting to see sort of the mess of that, of her still being there working. She’s not leaving Chicago, so what does that look like?”
