Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor announced on Friday that longtime community member Jen Shephard will take the role of the company’s new artistic director, succeeding Jonathan Berry, who took over the role in 2022.
Shephard has been active in Maine’s arts and theater community for years, and has served as PTC’s executive director since early 2021. She is also the co-founder of ImprovAcadia, a community theater group in Bar Harbor that was active from 2004 to 2019.
She has written and directed a number of PTC productions, including “Ready, Set, Go!,” and “A Kick in Your Dickens.”
“Jen Shepard brings a deep understanding of our community and a tireless passion for the theatre,” said Sundance Campbell, President of Penobscot Theatre Company’s Board of Directors. “We are excited to begin the next chapter of Penobscot Theatre’s story under her leadership.”
Berry announced he would be stepping down from the position in March to return home to Chicago.
Shephard steps into the role as PTC runs its extremely popular production of “The Rocky Horror Show.” “The Rocky Horror Show” will be performed through July 13 at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St. For tickets, call 207-942-3333 or visit penobscottheatre.com.
