A Gorham woman was rescued by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department after becoming seriously injured while hiking in Franconia Notch on Wednesday.
Victoria Reynolds, 53, of Gorham, was hiking with family on the Cascade Brook Trail in the White Mountain National Forest when she slipped and fell, the Northeast Explorer reported.
Officials were notified of Reynolds’ injury at around 1:05 p.m. While she was waiting for rescuers to arrive, a group of hikers who were reportedly physicians found Reynolds’ group and stayed until officials arrived around 2:35 p.m.
She was transferred to a litter to be carried off the trail when rescue personnel received a second report of a hiker requiring assistance. The hiker, identified as 65-year-old Lawrence Leszcynski ofNew Jersey, had slipped and fallen over a steep ledge while descending the Falling Waters Trail, and had numerous cuts and injuries.
A passing hiker assisted Leszcynski before rescuers arrived at around 3:15 p.m. First responders determined that he would be able to walk out of the trail with some assistance, allowing rescuers to carry Reynolds on the litter.
Reynolds was carried to the parking lot by around 5:51 p.m., and was transported to Littleton Regional Healthcare to be evaluated and treated for her injuries.
Leszcynski had been able to drive himself to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
According to officials, the 200-foot section of trail where Leszcynski was found accounts for more injuries than any other section of trail in New Hampshire.
