Miley Cyrus’ relationship with Maxx Morando has an unexpected similarity to her mom, Tish Cyrus, and sister Brandi Cyrus’ own romances.
“What does it say about the three of us that, technically, we are all cougars?” Brandi, 38, quipped on the Thursday, June 19, episode of her and Tish’s “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast.
Miley, 32, has been dating Morando, 26, since 2022, while Brandi is in a relationship with Matt Southcombe, who is 36. Their mother, 58-year-old Tish, is married to actor Dominic Purcell, who is three years her junior. (Tish shares Miley, Braison and Noah with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus, who also adopted Tish’s kids Brandi and Trace from a past relationship.)
“[It says] so many things,” Miley said on the podcast. “Am I the landslide? … [Maxx] will be 27 when I turn 33, which I’m so excited for him to turn 27 ‘cause that was such a great year for me. I’m just hoping that, as long as he follows in my footsteps, everything is going to be great. That’s right when I started turning my life around.”

Tish, who noted that she “never” thought about being older than 55-year-old Purcell, also wanted to know about Brandi’s perspective.
“Wait, you and Matt, at some point, [will you be] the same age?” Tish inquired. “‘Cause it’s only a year.”
Southcombe, meanwhile, chimed in from off-camera to playfully correct his girlfriend’s mother.
“I’m 36 right now,” he said, before Brandi then realized that they “won’t ever be the same age.”
Tish then added that she and Purcell are sometimes “only two years apart” in between birthdays.
“Me and Maxx … sometimes we’re only four [years apart] for three days,” Miley replied, before acknowledging his astrology sign. “We’re only a couple of days apart. He’s a Scorpio [and] so is his grandfather, that’s what makes Maxx just so cool because he can sting. Like, very cool [and they] think that they’re little angels until it turns around and they got a sting.”
She added, “I couldn’t be with someone [who] doesn’t sting. They would have been toast already.”
Later in the podcast episode, Miley further joked that she’s currently “obsessed” with her boyfriend when pressed to choose favorite books, shows and rituals.

“Maxx Morando and Mandy Morando, yeah, I’m obsessed,” she joked, referring to the couple’s pet. “[She’s] the cutest thing [and-] has a little cone, and she’s just so cute. I’m loving Mandy Morando. She’s everything.”
On a previous episode of the podcast earlier this month, Tish said that she loves seeing her daughters thrive in their respective relationships. (Tish and Billy Ray’s youngest, Noah, 25, is engaged to fashion designer Pinkus.)
“My girls are in such super-healthy, amazing relationships,” Tish said. “I love love and I think that they have been much more cautious in love than I was, and taken longer to make sure it’s the right person.”
