The University of Maine’s Collins Center for the Arts named Karen Cole as its new interim director, the university announced Tuesday.
A UMaine alumna who has served as the center’s associate director since 2014, Cole will assume her new position at the university’s flagship performing arts venue on July 3. As associate director, she contributed to marketing, communications and fundraising efforts.
Cole graduated from UMaine in 1984 and worked in various media, marketing and business roles at local organizations including WABI and the Bangor Mall, according to the university. She also held multiple leadership positions with the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. She first joined UMaine’s staff as business manager for the School of Performing Arts.
Cole succeeds Danny Williams, who is retiring after serving as director for more than 11 years.
