Food Network’s Anne Burrell may have suffered from a cardiac arrest before her death.
A rep for the New York City Fire Department told multiple outlets on Wednesday, June 18, that a 911 caller claimed Burrell went into “cardiac arrest” and was “DOA [dead on arrival].” Burrell was found unresponsive inside her Brooklyn home on Tuesday, June 17, according to the New York City Police Department.
A New York City Police Department spokesperson told Us Weekly on Tuesday that Burrell was pronounced dead “at the scene” inside her Brooklyn home after authorities responded to a 911 call, which led to the discovery of “an unconscious and unresponsive” 55-year-old female.
Burrell’s loved ones released a statement honoring her.

“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” their statement read. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
Burrell is survived by her mother, Marlene, and her sister, Jane, along with husband Stuart Claxton (whom she married in October 2021) and his son, Javier. Burrell became a household name in 2005 as a sous chef on Iron Chef America. She later appeared in Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which premiered in 2008 and ran for nine seasons.
Burrell’s most prominent role was her job hosting Worst Cooks in America in 2010, in which she served as a mentor to amateur cooks hoping to become capable chefs. Following her passing, there was an outpouring of tributes from fellow Food Network stars.
“We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning,” the network said in a statement shared via Instagram on Tuesday. “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent — teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”

In her final Instagram post before her death, Burrell documented a highlight of her week after meeting The Green Lady of Brooklyn.
“I ran into @greenladyofbrooklyn in my neighborhood today!!” she wrote via Instagram earlier this month. “I’m not going to lie. I have been keeping an eye out for her. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!! #ilovewhatido #luckygirl 
.”
The Green Lady of Brooklyn responded to Burrell’s post writing, “It was so much fun meeting you. See you again soon in the neighborhood The only thing I make is coffee and fig preserves from my fig tree love and hugs Elizabeth 
.”
