To our federal legislators: You and your fellow legislators took an oath to support and defend our Constitution, the supreme law of the United States, which begins with: “We the people of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessing of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America.”
Please use this as a touchstone as you review and ultimately vote on all proposed legislation including President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” remembering that this Constitution is for all individuals in the United States, not just a privileged few.
Also keep in mind that our Constitution deliberately establishes three separate and co-equal branches of government and their respective responsibilities and limits of powers. Regardless of any president’s ambitions, no executive order or partisan bill may contradict or undermine the Constitution. It is your responsibility to ensure that all legislation meets the provisions outlined in our Constitution.
If you keep your pledge in mind, your vote will result in legislation that benefits all the people of the United States and conforms to the principles and provisions of our Constitution.
