A woman has died after an overnight house fire in Wilton on Saturday.
The fire broke out at the Magrath Road home just after midnight, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Robert Adams, 84, jumped from a window to escape the flames.
A neighbor and Wilton police officers rushed into the home through a window when they learned that Adams’ partner, 81-year-old Sharon Rainey, was still inside, Moss said Sunday evening.
They pulled Rainey from the flames. Rainey had suffered severe burns.
Adams and Rainey were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington before being flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where Rainey succumbed to her injuries.
Adams remains in critical condition.
The neighbor and Wilton police officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire remains under investigation, but it is believed to have started in the chimney.
