Prime Video’s Countdown pairs Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane in an action-packed thriller series.
The series, which premieres in June 2025, follows an LAPD detective who is recruited onto a covert task force with undercover agents from various law enforcement agencies after a Department of Homeland Security officer is killed in plain sight. The group must track down the murderer — but there is a larger conspiracy at work that they need to uncover while racing to protect Los Angeles.
“I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” Ackles shared in a 2024 statement. “I simply cannot wait to partner with Derek [Haas] and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”
Countdown is one of Ackles’ many projects following the success of The CW’s Supernatural. Ackles, who played fan-favorite Dean Winchester for 15 seasons, went on to star on The Boys, which then paved the way for his own prequel series: Vought Rising.

Ackles also had a guest spot on Big Sky and produced The Winchesters before his recurring role on Tracker as Justin Hartley’s onscreen brother.
The upcoming Prime Video series is one of Dane’s new projects in the wake of his ALS diagnosis.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane said in a statement in April 2025. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week.”
The statement continued: “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

What Is ‘Countdown’ About?
The official synopsis of Countdown reads: “When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD detective Mark Meachum, portrayed by Ackles, is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate.”
The logline continues: “But the hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.”
Who Is Involved in ‘Countdown’?
Countdown is created by Derek Haas, who was previously involved in the One Chicago franchise.
“I am thrilled to be working again with Jen Salke and Vernon Sanders and all the excellent people they’ve assembled at Prime Video,” Haas said in a June 2024 statement. “I love making shows that keep you on the edge of your seat with nonstop action, drama, surprises, and suspense, and I can’t wait to work with Jensen and for everyone to see Countdown.”
When Will ‘Countdown’ Be Released?
Countdown premieres with the first three episodes on June 25, 2025, New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays.
