A Springfield man will spend nearly two years behind bars for threatening an insurance inspector with a gun.
U.S. District Judge Stacey Neumann sentenced 67-year-old James Elliott to 21 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release during a Wednesday hearing at federal court in Bangor, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Elliott allegedly threatened the insurance inspector in February 2024.
During a subsequent search of his home, police found six guns, including a loaded .44-magnum lever-action rifle, which Elliott was barred from having because of two felony convictions in Kansas, including for indecent conduct with a child, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
He was being held at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor as of Friday morning.
