The Army National Guard training area in Woodville is set to be renamed in honor of two Passamaquoddy World War I veterans, a spokesperson for the guard announced Thursday.
Previously known as the Woodville Training Area, the site will now bear the name PFC Charles Lola and PFC Samuel J. Dana Training Area following a formal ceremony on Monday.
Lola and Dana served as members of Company I of the 103rd Division Infantry Regiment who received numerous commendations for holding off German troops during a raid and artillery bombardment in France.
The pair, according a release from the National Guard, defied withdrawal orders and remained manning an automatic rifle at their forward post for enough time to allow the rest of Company I to recover and counterattack. Lola was killed by gunfire, and Dana was severely wounded during the raid.
The National Guard will unveil a monument detailing their actions during the ceremony.
