A deer caused a chain-reaction crash on the Maine Turnpike on Tuesday evening.
The deer was crossing the southbound side of the turnpike, near mile marker 13, in York about 7:13 p.m. when a red Mitsubishi Mirage hit it in the center lane, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The crash disabled the Mitsubishi, and the driver moved to a safe place off the road, Moss said Wednesday morning.
But when a commercial fuel vehicle crested the hill, its driver was unable to stop in time, hitting the Mitsubishi, pushing it into the median before the truck veered to the right and collided with a BMW.
Both the fuel truck and the BMW went off the right side of the road.
Only minor injuries were reported, and no one needed to be taken to the hospital.
The deer did not survive, Moss said.
