Scott Wolf opened up about the “challenges” his family has faced just five months before wife Kelley Wolf announced the pair’s separation.
Speaking candidly to Us Weekly during a January interview, the Doc star revealed that recent years had not been easy on the couple and their three children. “The last few years have presented life in a way that we hadn’t experienced before,” Scott exclusively told Us at the time. “These are not life and death Issues, but reframing issues, things that have, kind of, challenges, and watching our family go through things that have presented challenges … to find our way through in ways that have changed the way I see happiness.”
Kelley, 48, announced she and Scott were “moving forward with the dissolution of our marriage” via her Instagram on Tuesday, June 10. The pair have been married for 21 years and share two sons, Jackson, 16, and Miller, 12, as well as a daughter, Lucy, 11.
While speaking to Us, Scott shared that recent years saw the couple uproot their family multiple times. “My family’s been through some stuff over the past few years. This period of time has been weird for a lot of people. And we sort of got blown in the wind a little bit, moved around a bunch, and [I] watched my children deal with all of that,” he explained.

Scott also reflected on the earlier stages of his relationship with Kelley, who is an actress. “You pick the right person to begin with and obviously that’s the whole thing, but it’s not the whole thing. I used to say that was the whole thing and believe it was the whole thing. But no, now we’ve lived life. We’ve been through a lot and we’ve been very blessed. And most of it just has been incredible,” he continued.
Scott then praised his estranged wife at length for providing strength during the family’s darker times. “We’ve been through challenging things, and there’s no one I want to talk to more. There’s no one I want to share my experience with more. She’s just an incredible mother and human being,” Scott said, adding that he thought “she likes me too most days.”
The actor also discussed how much he had grown to rely on Kelley over the years. “We communicate well. She’s a life coach, and I mean, she is of the highest order. She is, like, a seer and a holder of light and love,” he gushed. “She’s always known when we need to talk, when we need to clear something. And I think for a lot of people, if that communication is tricky or hard or just isn’t maintained, then things can just become something, even though they don’t necessarily deserve to be something.”

Tuesday’s Instagram post offered Scott plenty of praise, too, with Kelley stating that Scott is “one of the best fathers” she’s ever known and “one of the best partners a woman could have the privilege of sharing life with.” She added that he is “kind, thoughtful, funny. and beautiful in spirit.”
The pair publicly reflected on their 14th anniversary in 2018, with Scott telling Us exclusively at the time that he and Kelley “really like each other.”
“My nana told me, ‘Marry the person you want to see across the breakfast table for the rest of your life. And I did that,” he said. “Because all the hot stuff and the cold stuff, it ebbs and flows and comes and goes. But we really like each other. I married the best person.”
