Teamwork prevails over conservative values in Hermon School Committee race

The two seats on Hermon School Committee were won by a duo that campaigned together during Tuesday’s election.

Jonathan “Jon” Smith, 44, and Eugene “Gene” Sullivan Jr., 48, won the seats on the school committee, with 533 and 507 votes, respectively. Haily Keezer, 41, finished with 339 votes, while Caroline DelMonaco, 47, had 311 votes.

Keezer lost reelection to her seat. The other seat was open after James Stubbs did not run for reelection after winning a partial term in the November election.

Smith and Sullivan ran together on a platform of cooperation and teamwork. DelMonaco and Keezer also campaigned together. Both women were endorsed by Rep. James Thorne, R-Carmel, for their conservative values.

Before the election, Smith said he ran because he wanted to contribute to his community and bring a level of calm to the committee. Sullivan, who had previously lost the special election to Stubbs, ran because he didn’t want to give up on his goal and make sure the committee is collaborative.

Meanwhile, three people — Richard Cyr, Jason Forbes and Chad Leonard — were on the ballot for three seats on Hermon Town Council. Adam Brewer was a write-in candidate. Cyr had 516 votes, while Forbes had 490, Brewer had 378 and Leonard had 355. Cyr, Forbes and Brewer will serve three-year terms.
