Miley Cyrus seemingly couldn’t resist throwing a subtle jab at her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, during a recent interaction with a fan.

The pop star, 32, was signing copies of her new album, Something Beautiful, at New York City’s Rough Trade record store on Wednesday, June 4, when a fan named Liam stopped by for her autograph. According to a photo the fan shared via X, Cyrus signed the LP with the message, “The best Liam.”

The fan seemed to have noticed the shade as well, posting a follow-up photo posing with Cyrus along with the quip, “Me when I’m the best Liam.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth, 35, dated off and on for nearly a decade before tying the knot in late 2018. They split just eight months later, finalizing their divorce in 2020.

In a December 2020 interview, the Grammy winner told Howard Stern that her romance with Hemsworth didn’t last because “there was too much conflict” between them. “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone,” she added. “I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”

Last month, the “Flowers” singer hinted that losing her Malibu home to wildfires in 2018 also played a role in the split but said she’s now grateful it forced her to reevaluate her priorities.

“When my house burned down, that was the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life, actually,” she explained at a Spotify event on May 6. “Losing everything and being able to rebuild, and to be able to be purposeful and choose every piece that I’m gonna collect or also just about the people in my life. And I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that again just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth lost their shared home in November 2018 and exchanged vows month later. She later said that the wildfire partly inspired their decision to get married.

“When you experience what we experienced together with someone, it is like glue,” she told Vanity Fair in February 2019. “You’re the only two people in the world who can understand.”

She added, “Going through a natural disaster, the grief you experience is really unlike any other loss. No more, just different. In our position it feels or looks like everything is replaceable and you can start again, but you can’t buy spirit. Our place wasn’t filled with expensive, meaningless s***, but art.”

Cyrus has since moved on with Maxx Morando, whom she started dating in late 2021. Hemsworth, meanwhile, has been dating Gabriella Brooks since 2019.
