Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, is opening up about how she and her daughter handle business disagreements.

Tina, 71, and Beyoncé, 43, are business partners in the pop superstar’s haircare line, Cécred, which launched in 2024, and the Knowles matriarch admits that it’s not always easy mixing family with business.

“There are difficulties sometimes because when you’re dealing with your child, or they’re dealing with their mother, you have disagreements,” Tina shared on the Tuesday, June 2, bonus episode of Meghan Markle’s “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast.

However, Tina — who also shares daughter Solange, 38, with ex-husband Mathew Knowles — said she tends to be the one to back down when she and Beyoncé clash.

“I’m the one to always cave. I’ve been like that since I was young. If my kids are mad at me, I can’t take it, so I’ll apologize,” Tina said. “Even as adults, if we have disagreements or whatever, I’m the one to call because I don’t want to waste that time, and I don’t ever want to not be close to my kids. It’s just my priority.”

“We have disagreements about things, but it’s her business,” Tina continued. “I’m helping with the business because I just wanna leave this earth knowing that she, other than entertainment, is going to be OK. That’s a big part of it for me.”

“But overall, we get along really, really well. It’s her business, so she gets to win,” Tina added of disagreements with her daughter.

Beyoncé and Tina launched Cécred, which is best known for its viral revitalizing hair drops, in 2024. According to Tina, it took the “Cuff It” singer some “convincing” to pursue the endeavor.

What Tina Knowles Has Said About Son-in-Law Jay-Z Over the Years

“It’s been a dream of mine forever. And Beyoncé, it’s been a dream of hers, so we’ve talked about this for years and years and years,” Tina said. “She was just not interested in pursuing another business because in her younger years, she completely focused on her singing and her skills.”

Tina continued, “It took some convincing. I said, ‘I will work on it and we’ll work on it together.’ And so finally, she said, ‘OK, we can start on it.’ I didn’t want to start it by myself. I feel like, at this point in my life, being 70 years old, I didn’t want to work that hard.”

Though mother and daughter may occasionally clash when it comes to their business venture, Tina said that Beyoncé has implicit trust in her mom, who has decades of experience as a salon owner.

“I trust her. She’s such a savvy businesswoman. She knows so much about hair. We trust each other,” Tina told Meghan. “And sometimes I’ll say, ‘I wanna build this office and I wanna have a test salon in the back and I wanna have a laboratory in there.’ And everyone else was like, ‘You can’t do that in that amount of space.’ She’ll say, ‘I know you know what you’re doing.’”

“In a roomful of people that were advisors, they were like, ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.’ And she was like, ‘My mom knows what she’s doing.’ So she trusts me on things, and I trust her,” Tina said.
