Sam Asghari is looking back at his relationship with ex-wife Britney Spears.
“I wanted her to have a prenup,” Asghari, 31, said on the Monday, June 2, episode of the “Trading Secrets” podcast. “I wanted to make sure she’s protected, because throughout her life, everybody — I don’t know one person that’s ever been in her life that didn’t take advantage of her. So it’s very sad. I wanted to make sure that I’m the person that [didn’t] do that.”
While speaking generally about prenups later on in the episode, Asghari noted that his stance is that one either gets “everything or nothing.” He added, “So basically, you either have it all because this is all for you. We’re building it for you or nothing. It’s not like we’re not going to think about half.”
Asghari and Spears started dating after he was cast as Spears’ love interest in her 2016 “Slumber Party” music video. Asghari and Spears, now 43, tied the knot in 2022, one year after her 13-year conservatorship was officially ended by a judge. Asghari filed for divorce in 2023 and the split was finalized the next year.

When host Jason Tartick noted that Asghari got “labeled” as someone who was taking advantage of Spears, the Traitors alum noted that he tries not to take haters to heart.
“I never get mad at the general public or fans or people that are seeing your life from a distance, especially now that I’m not in a relationship for over two years or a year and something,” he said. “Looking from an outside perspective, I see there’s an age difference, there’s a fame difference, there’s this, there’s that. But realistically, we met as costars.”
Asghari admitted on Monday that he initially wanted to focus on TV and film before learning that the opportunity to star on the music video was with Spears — but he wasn’t “too familiar” with her music.
“I was working alongside her. And that happens in the acting world because everybody’s busy and you’re working on set and you’re spending a lot of time, sometimes more time than your own family,” Asghari explained. “So it’s just natural how that works, just like it is in the office. If you’re working in the office, you meet a coworker. It is but also no matter what, there’s always gonna be people that have their own opinions. And I respect that.”

Asghari noted that the “only thing that really matters” to him is what he thinks of himself, adding that his “respect” for himself includes showing up early and presenting himself in a “certain way.”
“It’s all for me,” he said. “So it’s not really focused on the fans or whoever. … My career is always going to be, I’m always going to do things that’s going to benefit the fans and people that are watching me. And I want to be a good example. But at the same time, it’s because that makes me feel better.”
While reflecting on his career during his relationship with Spears, Asghari admitted that it was “very difficult to do certain things” because he had to be “selective.”
“I turned down a few modeling things back then,” he admitted. “It was because it was associated with women and I wanted to be respectful. It was a very sensitive time and a very sensitive situation I was dealing with. So I wanted to be very successful and things like that. So that was at that time. Now, it’s different.”

He continued, “There [were] a few things I had to turn down and obviously things that ever involved her, a lot of amazing — we’re talking about show up to this event and bring your ex-wife and we give you half a million dollars each and things like that and cars and Bentley and a G-Wagon and things like that. Just show up or convince her to come. But that’s not me. I’m not even going to bring it up.”
Asghari shared that his mindset was to “support,” adding that he hoped to get to a place where they “can do that” and “would be smart to build an empire together.”
“But at that moment in time, it wasn’t,” he said. “And that’s things that people have done in her past and I wasn’t going to add fuel to the fire.”
While acknowledging that he’s “always going to be grateful” for the “platform” that his relationship with Spears gave him, Asghari noted that he was “already working very hard.”
“No matter what, I think I would have been successful,” he said.
