A veteran driver was injured during what was called a “terrifying” accident in turn 3 of the Pro Stock feature at Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday when his car collided with a wall.
Shane Lane, of North Anson, sustained broken bones, bruises, cuts, and an injured finger during the crash, according to the speedway’s Facebook page.
Lane, who was alert after the collision, was taken to a local hospital and then to Boston for surgery.
“Last night veteran racer Shane Lane was involved in a serious accident on the opening lap of the Pro Stock feature, losing control on the backstretch and hitting the wall entering turn three,” Ken Minott, Wiscasset Speedway announcer and promoter wrote on his Facebook page. “I have been calling races at Wiscasset for over 32 years, and this one was right up there among the scariest and most breathtaking incidents I’ve witnessed (and called).”
Wiscasset police referred questions about the crash to the speedway, and officials there did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
