About the big, beautiful bill passed in the U.S. House, I wonder if the people who are cheering this as a victory know that Medicare will probably be cut by $500 billion. Also that at least 8.6 million people could lose their Medicaid coverage.
And that the highly touted tax cuts overwhelmingly benefit the rich. In fact, the top 0.1 percent of earners would get an estimated extra $390,000 per year while those making from $17,000 to $51,000 will lose about $700.
I’m assuming that a lot of the people celebrating the bill are Republicans, and I wonder if they care that the bill would add $3.8 trillion to the debt over 10 years. They seemed to care a lot about the deficit when Democrats were in office. We American people pay the interest on the national debt by way of taxes.
I should say that this information comes from the economist Robert Reich whom I consider to be a pretty smart guy. Please think and research on your own and don’t just blindly take the word of the Republican-controlled Congress that says it is protecting Medicaid for the most vulnerable or that it is delivering tax cuts to the people. Those things are not true.
We all need to make sure that we have the real facts, and there are indeed real facts to be had. Such as that ICE would have its budget substantially increased, but the SNAP program, which feeds families in need of help, would be cut by $300 billion.
We are leaving our most vulnerable unprotected, without food assistance or healthcare. Is this America?
