PERRY — The fourth annual Rhubarb Festival is set to return Saturday, June 7 from noon to 5 p.m. at Kendall Farm in Perry. This charming country fair is a celebration of all things rhubarb, packed with music, food, art and family-friendly activities.
Festivalgoers can expect a variety of delicious offerings, including homemade pies and jams from Pie Ladies’ Bakery, a rhubarb-themed “Rhu-Bar” mocktail station, “Rhubarbuterie” boards featuring rhubarb creations paired with cheese and crackers and the ever-popular tasting table. This year’s event also features Washington County oysters served with a rhubarb mignonette.
Local artisans will showcase a range of handcrafted goods for sale, including jewelry and plush toys for children. Hands-on demonstrations throughout the day will guide attendees on how to grow, care for, cook, and preserve rhubarb, along with creative ways to use the versatile vegetable in everyday dishes.
Art activities include wax-resist watercolor painting using rhubarb leaves and stems, led by Ms. Myrick of Eastport Schools. Face painting will also be available, provided by her daughter, Aralyn.
Live music from Washington County performers will take place every hour, starting at noon:
- 12 p.m. – Celtic String Things, a toe-tapping local string ensemble
- 1 p.m. – Lucy Zwigard, accompanied by surprise guest musicians
- 2 p.m. – Gene Nichols and the Ukulele Club, featuring familiar, sing-along tunes
- 3–4 p.m. – Rhubarb stalk-eating competition and raffle prize announcements
- 4 p.m. – Patrick Cormier of Alexander, a seasoned singer-songwriter, will close out the day
Festival merchandise will be available for purchase, including rhubarb stalks and plants, baked goods, aprons by 207 Maine Gifts, screen-printed pink handkerchiefs, bumper stickers and items from previous years. Raffle prizes include gift baskets with rhubarb wine, wine totes, and a gift certificate to The Rouxbarb Restaurant in Utopia, New Brunswick.
